Today is Earth Day.
Even though the very first Earth Day commenced way back in 1970, it is now that such a day seems more necessary and relevant than ever. In the 49 years since the movement was commenced, global climates and sea levels have continued to rise. 2017 has been recorded as the third warmest year ever recorded. Grim environmental news seems to be all around and sometimes it feels as though we are fighting a losing battle.
But I don’t want to dwell on all the negativity today. We are all more than aware of the gravitas of the situation. Instead I want to celebrate those who are doing their bit to help heal the world we live in. Whether this be those researching new and environmentally sound ways to package our produce or the Extinction Rebellion protesters supergluing themselves to trains. Without these people giving a damn about our world, our situation would be a lot more dire.
Chance are, if you are reading this, you too are actively trying to be more green and have taken measures to make your lifestyle more eco-friendly. And whether that be trying a vegan diet or just committing to recycle more the fact is more and more of us are coming together to make a difference.
Sometimes it is hard to see how you can make a difference, but with these small, incremental lifestyle changes we can start to turn this around.
Earth Day challenges us all to commit our own ‘acts of green’ because “when we come together, the impact can be monumental.” The movement has reached 2.6 billion green acts with the aim to reach 3 billion by its 50th anniversary in 2020.
Here at The Ilex Wood, we have already committed to only use recyclable and plastic free packaging to house our products and will continue to strive to be ensure our processes are as sustainable as can be.
The journey to green living is not always easy and some tough changes must be made. However, if we all continue on our green journey and encourage as many others to join to, the one place we all call home stands a chance at survival.
